Just shy of a three-hour drive from Port of Spain, Trinidad, Grande Riviere beach supports the highest nesting density of leatherback turtles in the world. Leatherbacks will lay about 6 times here during the nesting season, laying about 100 eggs per batch. Few, however, survive to reproductive maturity.

For the last four years, selecting the conch from Bugaloo’s ocean pen on Providenciales, the largest of the Turks & Caicos Islands, and cleaning them for consumption has been Wilner Charlo’s morning ritual. Overconsumption of conch on the island, however, could make the mollusc harder to source in the future.
